Ethanol Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What are the advantages to using ethanol blended fuels?

A: Ethanol is a renewable fuel whereas gasoline is a fossil fuel. Fossil fuels will eventually run out but renewable fuels will not. Ethanol burns cleaner than gasoline and will assist in cleaner combustion in automobile engines. Ethanol use will significantly lower carbon dioxide emissions, ensuring a cleaner environment. Canada will be less dependent on imported gasoline with higher use of ethanol.

Q: What is the difference between the dry mill and wet mill ethanol technologies?

A: Dry milling is by far the least expensive way to produce ethanol but only produces one low grade co-product called Dried Distillers Grains (DDGs). Conversely, our wet milling process creates several high grade diversified environmentally friendly co-products.

Q: It is true that it takes more energy to produce a litre of ethanol than is contained in that litre?

A: No, it is not true. A recent USDA study determined that 1.67 units of energy are produced for every unit expended in the production of ethanol.
